Embarrassingly behind in my dissemination of jams. I’ve been bogarting the tunes, folks, and for that, I am sorry. Put on yo oven mitts — these songs are superhot & supremely FRESH.
Here’s the mixtape I’m currently spinning; I’ve titled mine “Two of Hearts,” but I invite you to name yours as it applies to this chunk of your life experience.
P.S. Send me a blank CD/self-addressed/postage/etc, if you want your own copy. Yeah, I’m phucking old school. I’ll use a typewriter for your tracklist, bitch.
1. “Midnight City” - M83
Out-of-control. Stick-shift, top-down convertible on an oceanside highway. GIMME. This is a party monster of a single.
2. “Sunlight” - Bag Raiders
LODGED. MOVE. Hair fucking everywhere.
3. “Young Blood” - The Naked & the Famous
Let’s be honest…mixtape filler. Adequate.
4. “Don’t Fuck with My Money” - Penguin Prison
Artist & song name should be sufficiently intriguing to you.
5. “Mouthful of Diamonds” - Phantogram
Older jam, pretty much included because of recent High Noon show.
6. “Stuck In My ID” - Reptar
Stuck In My ID = stuck in my head. Great transition song for this mixtape, especially since Reptar opened for Phantogram.
7. “Anna Sun” - Walk the Moon
On the verge of potential megahit status, me thinks — a la “Pumped Up Kicks” or MGMT-era crossover, etc. Catchy as a baseball glove, love. Playing a string of itsy bitsy shows round here (Frequency & Club G), which I think will be rowdy and FUN, even if the music is mediocre.
8. “Houdini” - Foster the People
I mean, whatever.
9. “Stand In The Water” - Wildlife
BZZZZZ Arcade Fire wannaBEES, yeah. They’re even from Canada. Let’s segway this mixtape into even mellower territory, while we’re at it.
10. “All The Money I Had Is Gone” - The Deep Dark Woods
SaskaTUNES.
11. “Video Games” - Lana Del Rey
Haunting.
12. “Simple Girl” - Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.
The classic sound of a cute indie film soundtrack.
13. “Feeding Line” - Boy & Bear
Will I grow tired of whistle/handclap bridges? The answer is no, never.
14. “King of Diamonds” - Motopony
Similarly, appropriately, the music accompanying the credits of that aforementioned cute indie film.
KABOOM.
